Yep, there are still days in the early throws of Spring where there is snow on the hill tops so any chance is taken to grab even a couple of hours of walking to enjoy it….
Our destination was Myndd Llangorse in the Black Mountains. This little hummock of a hill had a good dumping of the white stuff, enough for us to go and have a play and practice some poor visibility navigation.
As we pulled up in the car park, a little later than planned due to hitting a pot hole and an impromptu wheel change in the snow, we were the only people parked up and there were no footprints in the snow. It looked magical, the visibility was poor so there were none of the usual views towards the Central Beacons and Pen y Fan, but we could see enough to know that the snow was going to provide a pristine white landscape and a challenging navigation exercise.
It was a great day, we set each other little nav challenges and roamed over the hills, taking in much more than planned and surviving the howling winds. It might not be The Cairngorms but on that Sunday it was our little piece of snowy heaven.
